If you connect the audio to your PC then you can decode some data modes directly with the soundcard - no interface required. Some interfaces are very simple and easy to build or inexpensive to buy.

  • RTTY (Radio TeleType) - TrueTTY

  • ACARS, this lets you plot aircraft positions on a map and receive data! - WACARS

  • JVComm32 multipurpose program for the reception of HF-FAX weather charts, weather images from satellites and SSTV

  • Other easy to decode modes include Slow Scan TV, AMTOR and Faxed Weather maps
